This adaptation equips the tablets for secure operation in both gas/vapor Zone 2 and dust Zone 22 hazardous locations, aligning with the European ATEX Zone 2 / Zone 22 standards, which correspond to the US NEC Class 1 Division 2 equipment (C1D2) Groups A, B, C, D, F & G.
Compliance with ATEX / EX regulations is achieved through a dual approach: modification of the casing and implementation of an intrinsically safe electrical circuit. This integrated system ensures the tablets’ suitability for safe usage in hazardous environments, while retaining nearly all features of the original product. The Touch ID functionality has been relocated from the top button, and a passive stylus is available upon request to facilitate touch operation with gloves.
The ATEX iPad 10.9 inch boasts an aluminum case finish and is offered in both WIFI-only and WIFI + Cellular 5G models, providing versatile connectivity options. Beyond its function as a secure smart tablet, both versions excel as intrinsically safe video and photo cameras.
